The following table shows the number of children in each house of a society

What is the average number of children per house ?

Solution

Total number of houses = 3 + 7 + 12 + 7 = 29

Total children = $$(0 \times 2) + (1 \times 7) + (2 \times 12) + (3 \times 7)$$

= 7 + 24 + 21 = 52

$$\therefore$$ Average number of children per house = $$\frac{52}{29} = 1.79$$
