$$p^2+13p+40=0$$ => (p + 8)(p + 5) = 0
So, p = -8 or -5
$$q^2+7q+12=0$$ => (q+3)(q+4) = 0
So, q = -3 or -4
So, q is certainly greater than p. Hence, c is the correct answer.
