Price of petrol increased from Rs 60/liter to Rs 75/liter. How much should the consumption of petrol be reduced (in %) so as to increase expenditure by only 10%?
Now price of petrol = 60
Let the consumption be 10 liters
So expenditure = 600
Now Expenditure is increased by 10%
so the expenditure = 600(1.1) =660
Now the price = 75 per liter
so consumption will be : 660/75 =8.8 liters
Now therefore the percentage reduction = $$\frac{\left(10-8.8\right)}{10}\times\ 100=12$$
