$$II. y^{2} - 7y - 18 = 0$$

Solution

I. $$x^{2}$$-5x-24=0

$$x^{2}$$-8x+3x-24=0

x(x-8)+3(x-8)=0

(x+3)(x-8)=0

x=-3 or 8

II. $$y^{2}$$-7y-18=0

$$y^{2}$$-9y+2y-18=0

y(y-9)+2(y-9)=0

y=-2 or 9

Comparing x and y values,
-3 < -2
-3 < 9
8 > -2
8 < 9
Hence, The relation between x and y cannot be established.
