Question 84

A train travels 40% faster than a car. Both start from point A at the same time and reach point B, 140 km away at the same time. On the way the train takes 25 minutes for stopping at the stations. What is the speed (in km/hr) of the train?

Let speed of car  = $$x$$ kmph

speed of train = $$1.4\times x$$ kmph

distsance = 140

$$T_{car}-T_{train}=\frac{25}{60}hrs$$

$$\frac{140}{x}-\frac{140}{1.4x}=\frac{5}{12}$$

$$\frac{0.4}{1.4x}=\frac{5}{12\times 140}$$

$$\Rightarrow 1.4x = 134.4kmph.$$

so the answer is option B.
