The following table shows the number of children in each house of a society.
What is the average number of children per house?
Solution
Total number of houses = 7 + 11 + 15 + 5 = 38
Total children = $$(0 \times 7) + (1 \times 11) + (2 \times 15) + (3 \times 5)$$
= 11 + 30 + 15 = 56
$$\therefore$$ Average number of children per house = $$\frac{56}{38} = 1.47$$
