Question 74

Study the given bar-graph and answer the question that follows.
The bar-graph shows the sales of six different brands of blue and green pens in a town on a given day.

The total number of blue pens sold on that day of all the six brands taken together is how much percentage more than the total number of green pens sold on that day of all the six brands taken together? [Give your answer correct to 1 decimal place.]

Solution

The total number of blue pens sold on that day of all the six brands taken together = 42+48+52+64+44+60

= 310    Eq.(i)

The total number of green pens sold on that day of all the six brands taken together = 27+33+39+51+42+28

= 220    Eq.(ii)

Percentage more = $$\frac{\left(Eq.(i)-Eq.(ii)\right)}{Eq.(ii)}\times100$$

= $$\frac{\left(310-220\right)}{220}\times100$$

= $$\frac{90}{220}\times100$$

= $$\frac{900}{22}$$

= 40.9% (approx.)
