Question 70

Two numbers are respectively $$12\frac{1}{2}\%$$ and $$25\%$$ more than a third number. The first number is how much per cent of the second number ?

Solution

Given that there are 2 numbers x and y

They are 12.5% and 25% higher than 3rd number z respectively

So,

$$ x = [1+(\frac{12.5}{100})]z = 1.125z $$.............(1)

$$ y =[1 +(\frac{25}{100})]z = 1.25z $$ ...................(2)

Therefore from (1) and (2)

$$ (\frac{x}{y}) \times 100 = (\frac{1.125z}{1.25z}) \times 100 $$

                                       = $$ (0.9) \times 100 $$

                                       = 90 %
