Question 70

There are two numbers such that the first number is 5 times of the second number. If the difference between the first and the second numbers is 120, then what is the average of these two numbers?

Solution

There are two numbers such that the first number is 5 times of the second number.

Let's assume the second number is 'y'.

first number = 5 $$\times$$ the second number

first number = 5$$\times$$y = 5y

If the difference between the first and the second numbers is 120.

5y-y = 120

4y = 120

y = 30

Average of these two numbers = $$\frac{5y+y}{2}$$

= $$\frac{6y}{2}$$

= 3y

= $$3\times30$$

= 90
