Question 7

If 35% of (x + y) = 40% of (x - y), then x is what percentage of y?

Solution

Expression : 35% of (x + y) = 40% of (x - y)

=> $$\frac{35}{100}\times(x+y)=\frac{40}{100}\times(x-y)$$

=> $$35x+35y=40x-40y$$

=> $$40x-35x=35y+40y$$

=> $$5x=75y$$

=> $$\frac{x}{y}=\frac{75}{5}=15$$

$$\therefore$$ Required % = $$15\times100=1500\%$$

=> Ans - (A)
