Question 69

When an integer n is divided by 5, the remainder is 3. What is the remainder if 8n is divided by 5?

Solution

Given,

When the integer n is divided by 5, the remainder is 3

Let the quotient = k

$$=$$>  n = 5k + 3

$$\therefore\ $$8n = 8(5k+3)

$$=$$>  8n = 40k + 24

$$=$$>  8n = 40k + 20 + 4

$$=$$>  8n = 5(8k+4) + 4

It is in the form of  dividend = divisor x quotient + remainder

$$\therefore\ $$The remainder when 8n is divided by 5 is 4

Hence, the correct answer is Option C
