train without stoppage travels with an average speed of 80 km/h and with stoppage,it travels with an average speed of 72 km/h. For how many minutes does the train stop on an average per hour?

Solution

With stoppages speed = 72 kmph

Without stoppages speed = 80 kmph

Let the total distance = L.C.M of 80 and 72= 720

So, time taken with stoppages = $$\frac{720}{72}=10\ hr$$

Time taken without stoppages =$$\frac{720}{80}=9\ hr$$

Difference = 1 hr

In 10 hour trip 1 hour is spend on stoppages.

Per hour train stops for = $$\frac{1}{10}\times60=6$$
