Question 66

The data below shows the number of batsmen having different batting averages.

What is the mean batting average per batsman?

For the different ranges of batting average, we can take averages of those.

40-44 ==>$$\frac{40+44}{2}\ =\ 42$$

44-48 ==> $$\frac{44+48}{2}\ =\ 46$$

48-52 ==> $$\frac{48+52}{2}\ =\ 50$$

52-56 ==> $$\frac{52+56}{2}\ =\ 54$$

56-60 ==> $$\frac{56+60}{2}\ =\ 58$$

Mean batting average per batsman = $$\frac{42\times12+46\times10+50\times8+54\times6+58\times4}{12+10+8+6+4}$$

= $$\frac{504+460+400+324+232}{40}$$

= $$\frac{1920}{40}$$

= 48
