Solution

In a class, the average weight of 4 boys is 50 kg.

total weight of 4 boys = $$4\times50$$ = 200 kg

The average weight of 4 girls is 40 kg.

total weight of 4 girls = $$4\times40$$ = 160 kg

Average weight of all 8 students taken together = $$\frac{200+160}{4+4}$$

= $$\frac{360}{8}$$

= 45 kg
