Question 63

Study the given table and answer the following question.

As per the data above, the number of men in 2003 is what percentage more or what percentage less than the number of women in the same year?

Number of men in 2003 = $$136\times\frac{9}{9+8}$$

= $$136\times\frac{9}{17}$$

= $$8\times 9$$

= 72

number of women in the same year (2003) = 136-72 = 64

Percentage more = $$\frac{72-64}{64}\times100$$

= $$\frac{8}{64}\times100$$

= $$\frac{1}{8}\times100$$

= 12.5%

Shortcut :

We can also get the percentage directly with the help of the ratio which is given in the table.

Percentage more = $$\frac{9-8}{8}\times100$$

= $$\frac{1}{8}\times100$$

= 12.5%
