Question 62

What is the difference between a single discount of 30% and a single discount equivalent to two successive discounts of 25% and 5%, being given on shopping of ₹2,000?

Solution

As per the given question,

30% of discount on Rs. 2000 will be $$\dfrac{2000}{100}\times 70 =1400$$

Successive discount on 2000, is 25% and 5% so the discount amount $$\dfrac{75\times 2000}{100}\times \dfrac{95}{100}=1425$$

Hence the required difference$$=1425-1400=25$$Rs.
