In a mixture of 100 litres of milk and water, the ratio of milk and water is 3 : 2. If this ratio is to be 1 : 1, how much more water is to be added to the mixture?
In a mixture of 100 litres of milk and water, the ratio of milk and water is 3 : 2.
Initial quantity of milk =Â $$100\times\ \frac{3}{5}$$Â = 60Â litres
Initial quantity of water =Â $$100\times\ \frac{2}{5}$$ = 40Â litres
Let's assume the 'y' litres of water is to be added to the mixture for making the ratio 1:1.
$$\frac{60}{40+y}\ =\ \frac{1}{1}$$
60 =Â 40+y
y = 60-40
quantity of water added =Â y = 20Â litres
