Question 61

A is twice as good at writing a novel as B. Together they can finish writing the novel in 24 days. In how many days can A alone write the novel?

Solution

A is twice as good at writing a novel as B.

Let's assume the efficiency of B is 'y'.

the efficiency of A = 2y

Together they can finish writing the novel in 24 days.

Total work = $$(2y+y)\times\ 24$$

= $$3y\times\ 24$$

= 72y

Number of days taken by A alone to write the novel = $$\frac{72y}{2y}$$

= 36 days
