Samrat alone can complete a work in 10 days and Virat alone can complete the same work in 40 days. If they are working on alternate days with Samrat starting the work, then in how manydays will the total work be completed?

Solution

S = 10 days

V= 40 days

Total work = lcm (10,40)= 40 days

S's effiency = $$40\div10$$ =4

V's effiency = $$40\div40$$ =1

Work = $$efficency\times day$$

Starting with Samrat and followed by Virat

4+ 1 + 4 + 1 ..........= 40

Consider 4+1 as a 1 unit

5 n = 40

n = 8

= $$8\times2$$

= 16 days
