Question 60

A sum of money is distributed among A, B and C in the ratio 8 : 4 : 3. If A divides his part between D and E in the ratio 9 : 7, then what is the ratio of the share of C to that of D?

Solution

A sum of money is distributed among A, B and C in the ratio 8 : 4 : 3.

Let's assume the share of A, B and C is 8y, 4y and 3y respectively.

If A divides his part between D and E in the ratio 9 : 7.

Share of D = $$\frac{8y}{\left(9+7\right)}\times\ 9$$

= $$\frac{8y}{16}\times\ 9$$

= $$\frac{y}{2}\times\ 9$$

= 4.5y

Ratio of the share of C to that of D = 3y : 4.5y

= 30y : 45y

= 2 : 3
