A train without stoppage travels with an average speed of 72 km/h and with stoppage,it travels with an average speed of 60 km/h. For how many minutes doesthe train stop on an average per hour?

Solution

Speed with stoppages = 60 kmph

Speed without stoppages = 72 kmph

Let the distance be L.C.M of 72 and 60 = 360 km

Time taken to travel 360 km with stoppages = $$\frac{360}{60}=6\ hours$$

Time taken to travel 360 km without stoppages = $$\frac{360}{72}=5\ hours$$

Means in the trip of 6 hours, 1 hours spend on stoppages

So, duration of stoppages average per hour = $$\frac{1}{6}\times\ 60=10\ \min s$$
