A man is walking at a speed of 12 km per hour. After every kilometre, he takes rest for 4 minutes. How much time(in minutes) will he take to cover a distance of 8 kilometres?
A man is walking at a speed of 12 km per hour.
12 km = 1 hour = 60 minutes
1 km = 5 minutes
After every kilometer, he takes rest for 4 minutes.
It means that one km is done in 5 minutes and after that 4 minutes rest. So the total time taken for 1 km is 9 minutes.
In the question, it is given that he is traveling 8 km. So time taken = $$8\times9-4$$ [Here 4 is substracted because, after 8 km, the time of rest is not considered. Reason behind this it that the required distance is covered.]
= 72-4
= 68 minutes
