U and V can complete a piece of work in 6 and 48 days respectively. They contracted to complete the work for Rs 45,000. What will be the share (in Rs) of U?

Solution

Let total work is L.C.M. (6,48) = 48 units

U alone can complete a work in 6 days, => U's efficiency = $$\frac{48}{6}=8$$ units/day

Similarly V's efficiency = $$\frac{48}{48}=1$$ unit/day

=> Ratio of efficiencies of $$U:V=8:1$$

Total amount = Rs. 45,000

=> U's share = $$\frac{8}{(8+1)}\times45,000$$

= $$8\times5,000=Rs.$$ $$40,000$$

=> Ans - (D)
