Question 58

If $$(x - 2) (x - p) = x^{2}- ax+ 6$$, then the value of (a -p) is

$$(x - 2) (x - p) = x^{2}- ax+ 6$$

$$\Rightarrow$$ $$x^{2} - (2 + p)x+ 2p = x^{2}- ax+ 6$$

By the compare of terms,

a = 2 + p, 2p = 6

p = 3 and a = 2 + 3 = 5

The value of (a - p) = 5 - 3 = 2
