Question 56

A train passes a 60 metres long platform in 20 seconds and a man standing on the platform in 16 seconds. The speed of the train is:

Let the length of the train be T m.
Speed of the train to cross the platform and the man are equal.
$$\dfrac{60+T}{20} = \dfrac{T}{16}$$

=> $$240+4T = 5T$$
=> $$T = 240 m$$
Hence, The length of the train = 240 m
Speed of the train = $$\dfrac{240}{16} = 15$$ m/sec

$$15 m/sec = 15\times\dfrac{18}{5} = 54 kmph$$
