There are a total of 60 students in a class and the ratio of the number of boys to that of the girls is 4 : 1, respectively. If 22 of the boys from this class are vegetarians, then find the number of non-vegetarian boys from the same class.

Solution

There are a total of 60 students in a class and the ratio of the number of boys to that of the girls is 4 : 1, respectively.

number of boys in the class = $$\frac{60}{\left(4+1\right)}\times\ 4$$

= $$\frac{60}{5}\times\ 4$$

= $$12\times\ 4$$
= 48

If 22 of the boys from this class are vegetarians.

Number of non-vegetarian boys from the same class = 48-22

= 26
