Question 5

Calculate the length (in cm) of the chord of the circle which is at the distance of the 12 cm from the centre and at the radius of the circle is 13 cm.

Given : OB = 13 cm and OM = 12 cm

To find : AB = ?

Solution : In right $$\triangle$$ OMB,

=> $$(MB)^2=(OB)^2-(OM)^2$$

=> $$(MB)^2=(13)^2-(12)^2$$

=> $$(MB)^2=169-144=25$$

=> $$MB=\sqrt{25}=5$$ cm

$$\therefore$$ AB = $$2\times5=10$$ cm

=> Ans - (A)
