Choose the correct answer from the options given below

We need to match polymers with their commercial names.

The condensation polymer of phenol and formaldehyde is commonly known as Novolac (or Bakelite, depending on the conditions). Novolac is the linear polymer formed with excess phenol under acidic conditions, and therefore phenol-formaldehyde resin corresponds to (II) Novolac.

The synthetic rubber formed by copolymerization of 1,3-butadiene and styrene is known as Buna-S (Bu = butadiene, Na = sodium catalyst, S = styrene). It is also called SBR (Styrene Butadiene Rubber), so the copolymer of 1,3-butadiene and styrene corresponds to (III) Buna-S.

The polyester formed from ethylene glycol and phthalic acid (a dicarboxylic acid) is known as Glyptal. It is used in paints and lacquers, hence the polyester of glycol and phthalic acid corresponds to (I) Glyptal.

The polyester formed from ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid is known as Dacron (also called PET - polyethylene terephthalate). It is used to make polyester fibres, so the polyester of glycol and terephthalic acid corresponds to (IV) Dacron.

A-II, B-III, C-I, D-IV

The correct answer is Option B: A-II, B-III, C-I, D-IV.
