Question 40

If each of the letters of the English alphabet is assigned an odd numerical value beginning with A = 1, B = 3 and so on, what will be the total value of the letters of the word RADICAL?

Solution

Given that A = 1, B =3 , C=5 , D=7 ..... And so onĀ

Then the alphabet positionĀ  followed $$ n^{th}Ā  Ā alphabetĀ Ā  = 2 \times n -1 $$

therefore the RADICAL total valueĀ  Ā  Ā

R =$$ 2 \times 18 - 1 = 35 $$ (R = 18 alphabet position)

A = $$ 2 \times 1 - 1 = 1 $$Ā

D = $$ 2 \times 4 - 1 = 7 $$

IĀ = $$ 2 \times 9 - 1 = 17 $$

CĀ  = $$ 2 \times 3 - 1 = 5 $$

A = $$ 2 \times 1 - 1 = 1 $$

L = $$ 2 \timesĀ  12 - 1 =Ā  23Ā $$

Total value = 35+1+7+17+5+1+23 = 89 AnsĀ
