Question 33

The seven people H, I, J, K, L, M, and N are arranged in ascending order according to their heights in a row. The one with the shortest height stands at the first position, and the one with the tallest height stands at the end of the row. H is standing immediately behind L, who is standing immediately behind K. Only two people stand between M and N. I is standing second from the front. M is not the shortest. who is standing at first place in the row?

Solution

I is standing second from the front. M is not the shortest.

M(x)<I<<<<<    Eq.(i)

H is standing immediately behind L, who is standing immediately behind K.

H<L<K    Eq.(ii)

From Eq.(i) and Eq.(ii), There are three possible cases which are given below in Case(i), Case(ii) and Case(iii).

Case(i) M(x)<I<H<L<K<<

Case(ii) M(x)<I<<H<L<K<

Case(iii) M(x)<I<<<H<L<K

Only two people stand between M and N.

In Case(i) and Case(ii), the above-given condition is not applicable. So these cases are eliminated.

 Case(iii) N<I<<M<H<L<K

Now only 'J' is remaining which can be placed on the blank space.

N<I<J<M<H<L<K

According to the above arrangement, N is standing at first place in the row.
