Question 26

The graph of the equations $$5x - 2y + 1 = 0$$ and $$4y - 3x + 5 = 0$$, interest at the point $$P(\alpha, \beta)$$, What is the value of $$(2\alpha - 3\beta)$$?

Solution

$$5x - 2y + 1 = 0$$
15x - 6y + 3 = 0 ---(1)
$$3x -4y - 5 = 0$$
15x - 20y - 25 = 0 ---(2)
From eq (1) and (2),
14y + 28 = 0
y = -2
From eq(1),
15x + 6$$\times 2$$ + 3 = 0
x = -1
$$\alpha$$ = -1
$$\beta$$ = -2
$$(2\alpha - 3\beta)$$
= $$(2 \times (-1) + 3\times 2)$$ = 4
