If the total population of the state in 2005 was 5 million, then the Hindu population was [1 million = 10,00,000]

Solution

Total population in 2005 = 5 million

% of Hindu population in 2005 = 35%

=> Total Hindu population in 2005 = $$\frac{35}{100}$$ * 5 million

= 17,50,000
