Solution

Total population in 2004 = 5 lakhs

% of Hindu population = 30%

=> Hindu population in 2004 = $$\frac{30}{100}$$ * 5 lakhs

= 1,50,000

% of Muslim population = 25%

=> Muslim population in 2004 = $$\frac{25}{100}$$ * 5 lakhs

=> Total Hindu & Muslim population in 2004 = 1,50,000 + 1,25,000 = 2,75,000
