The following Venn diagram gives data regarding the sports team of ABC school. The ‘Circle’ represents ‘Junior (Under 14 yrs); the ‘Triangle’ represents ‘Swimmers, the ‘Rectangle’ represents ‘Cyclists and the ‘Square’ represents ‘Athletes’. The numbers given in the diagram represents number of persons of that particular category. How many Junior students are both good Athletes and swimmers but not Cyclists?

Solution

Given the Venn diagram  

from the above Venn diagram The ‘Circle’ represents ‘Junior (Under 14 yrs); the ‘Triangle’ represents ‘Swimmers, the ‘Rectangle’ represents ‘Cyclists and the ‘Square’ represents ‘Athletes 

then Junior students are both good Athletes and swimmers but not Cyclists = 9 (from the given Venn diagram )

therefore (D) = 9 Ans
