Pipes A and B can fill a tank in 6 hours and 9 hours respectively and pipe C can empty the full tank in 12 hours. If all three pipes are opened together when a tank is empty, in how many hours will 35% of the tank be filled?
Let the volume of tank be 36 units
Now A fills in 6 hours
so A will fill 6 unit/hr
B fills in 9 hours
so B will fill 4 unit/hr
C empties in 12 hours
C will empty 3 units/hr
Now volume filled in 1 hour = 6+4-3 = 7 units/hr
Now 35% volume = 36(0.35)
Now time taken to fill 35% of volume = 36(0.35)/7 =1.8 hours
