I purchase 100 kg of tea and sell it for a profit to the extent of what I would have paid for 40 kg. What is my profit percentage?

Solution

Let C.P. of 1 kg of tea = Rs. $$x$$ and S.P. = Rs. $$y$$

C.P. of 40 kg = Profit of 100 kg

=> $$40x=100(y-x)$$

=> $$40x=100y-100x$$

=> $$140x=100y$$

=> $$\frac{x}{y}=\frac{10}{14}$$

Let $$x=10$$ and $$y=14$$

$$\therefore$$ Profit % = $$\frac{(14-10)}{10}\times100=40\%$$

=> Ans - (A)
