A contractor undertook to finish a certain work in 124 days and employed 120 men. After 64 days, he found that he had already done 2/ 3 of the work. How many men can be discharged now so that the work may finish in time ?
Let's assume the number of men dischanger after 64 is y.
$$\frac{M1 \times D1 }{W1}$$ = $$\frac{M2 \times D2}{W2}$$
$$\frac{64\times120}{\frac{2}{3}} = \frac{(124-64)\times(120-y)}{\frac{1}{3}}$$
$$\frac{64\times120}{2} = \frac{60\times(120-y)}{1}$$
$$\frac{64\times60}{1} = \frac{60\times(120-y)}{1}$$
64 = 120-y
y = 120-64 = 56
