TWO pipes A and B can fill a tank in 45 minutes. If pipe A can fill an empty tank in 1 hour, how long will it take pipe B to fill the empty tank?

Solution

A can empty full tank in 1 hour or 60 minutes.

so,A can fill $$(1/60)$$ part of tank in 1 minute.

A and B both can fill $$(1/45)$$ part of tank in 1 minute.

So, B can fill $$(1/45-1/60)=(4-3)/180$$ $$=1/180$$part in 1 minute.

or, in 180 minutes (3 hour) B can fill the full tank.

B is correct.
