Question 113

What quantity of water should be added to 3 litres of 10% solution of salt, so that it becomes a 5% salt solution ?

Solution

The quantity of salt in 3 litres of the solution is 10%*3 = 0.3 litres.
Let the quantity of water added be X.
So, (X+3)*5% = 0.3
Or, X+3 = 0.3*20 = 6
Hence, X=3 litres
