Question 110

Selling an item for 1800 at a discount of 10% a shopkeeper had a gain of 200. Had he sold the item without discount the percentage of profit would have been

Solution

S.P. = 1800

Profit = 200

=> C.P. = 1800-200 = 1600

Discount % = 10%

Let M.P. = $$100x$$

=> Discounted amount = $$\frac{10}{100} * 100x = 10x$$

=> S.P. = $$100x - 10x = 90x = 1800$$

=> $$x = 20$$

Now. M.P. = 20*100 = 2000

If, he sold the item without giving any discount, in that case S.P. = M.P.

=> Profit % = $$\frac{2000-1600}{1600}$$ * 100

= 25%
