In what ratio must 25% of alcohol be mixed with 50% of alcohol to get a mixture of 40% strength alcohol ?

Solution

let the amount of 25% alcohol and 50% alcohol added be y ltr and z ltr respectively .

It is given that solution should have 40% alcohol content

So ,

$$\frac {(25y+50z)}{y+z}$$ = 40

$$\frac {y}{z}$$ = $$\frac {2}{3} $$
