Question 10

Which two signs should be interchanged in the following equation to make it correct?
$$868 + 14 \times 55 - 1064 \div 56 = 117$$

Solution

GivenĀ

868+$$14\times{55}$$ - $$1064\div{56}$$Ā

now solving the equation using BODMASĀ

868+$$14\times{55}$$-19

868+770-19

=1617

but according to question we have 868+$$\times{55}$$ - $$1064\div{56}$$ = 117

hence the difference between the answers is 1617-117 = 1500Ā

so we need to substract 1500 from the equation to get the correct values which can be done by replacing the sign of plus "+" with that of minus "-"

so that the equation gets corrected i.e 868-770+19 is 117.
