IPMAT Indore vs Rohtak Applicants
Essentially, while both exams lead to prestigious IPM programs, Indore has a larger pool of applicants, a more rigorous academic marketplace, and greater acceptance of scores. Rohtak has an additional Logical Reasoning section, a less rigorous Quantitative Aptitude, which may appeal to some students, especially if they do not have a math background. Indore attracts 2 times more applicants. Rohtak is a bit crowded, but the final acceptance is a bit tight.

IPMAT Exam Participation Trends
A total of 20,748 candidates (including all categories) scored positively in IPMAT 2024. Only 824 candidates (312 General + 78 EWS + 239 NC-OBC + 115 SC + 49 ST + 31 PwD) were shortlisted for PI. This results in a shortlisting ratio of 4% of the total number of candidates. From those shortlisted, only 150 seats were available, meaning the final conversion rate was 1%.
It is necessary to meet sectional cut-offs, but not sufficient - Aptitude Test Score (ATS) is used to shortlist for interviews. There is a big reduction from 20K+ exam solvers to 800 PI candidates. Success hinges on both sectional strength and high ATS for visibility.
"To apply, students must complete department-level advising and the institute's online application. If accepted, the initial deposit includes an administration fee that will later be used as their monthly payments."
To be admitted to the program, applicants need to undergo classes, work with their doctor, return to talk to a doctor about possible options, and hopefully be accepted. The timeline push we've created and the requirement to gain acceptance into this unique program (540 students applied for 150 - 165 students accepted this year, resulting in an approximately 1% final acceptance rate) show the current competition both candidates face at Pre-PI.
How Many Students Appear for the IPMAT Exam Every Year?: Conclusion
The IPMAT 2024 exam had tens of thousands of candidates attempt the exam; however, only a small percentage made it to the interview stage. The data speaks for itself; not only will candidates need to attend the exam, but they will need to prepare and perform better than others who sit for the exam. As seen over the previous years, the exam continues to become more competitive, which raises the standards of preparation for aspiring future candidates.
These stats highlight how the IPMAT shortlisting process becomes extremely selective once sectional minima and ATS criteria are enforced. If you would like more information, for example, final merit cut-offs, trends over the years, comparisons with other IIMs, or something else, just let me know.
