Total distance between cities = 30 km
Using, time = distance/speed
Time taken when speed is 30 kmph = $$\frac{30}{30}=1$$ hour
Similarly, time taken in the return journey = $$\frac{30}{20}=1.5$$ hours
$$\therefore$$ Average speed = total distance/total time
= $$\frac{30+30}{1+1.5}=\frac{60}{2.5}$$
= $$24$$ km/hr
