Ramesh is thrice as old as Kishore and Nirmal is half the age of Ramesh. If the sum of their ages is 99, then what is the age of Nirmal?

Solution

Let the age of Kishore be x.
Given Ramesh is thrice as old as Kishore. Thus, the age of Ramesh = 3x
Also, Nirmal is half the age of Ramesh. Thus, age of Nirmal = 3x/2 = 1.5x
The sum of their ages = 99 = x + 3x + 1.5x
Thus, x = 99/5.5 = 18
Therefore, the age of Nirmal = 1.5x = 27
