Question 75

A man gets a discount of 30% and then 20% on his food bill of ₹1,500. How much discount, in rupees, did he get ?

Solution

In the first case, discount amount he get is 30% of Rs. 1500 i.e.$$\frac{30*1500}{100}$$=Rs. 450

Therefore the buying price now reduced to Rs. (1500-450) =Rs. 1050.

But he again got a discount of 20% i.e 20% of 1050 i.e $$\frac{20*1050}{100}$$=Rs. 210

Therefore total discount he got Rs.(450 + 210) =Rs. 660
