The price of sugar got raised by 25%. To maintain the same level of expenses on sugar, a person reduced the consumption of sugar by 4% andalso increased his expenditure on sugar by x% . The value of x is:
Let the person have Rs 100 for sugar and he bought 100 kg sugar in Rs 100.
Now increased price of 100 kg sugar = $$100\times\frac{125}{100}=125$$
Increased price of 1 kg of sugar = $$\frac{125}{100}=1.25$$
Now he have reduced his consumption by 4% so he will purchase = 96 kg of sugar
For 96 kg of sugar he will pay = $$96Â \times1.25 = Rs 120$$
So, he have to increase his expenditure by 20%.
