The mean of the 5 smallest numbers from a group is 15 while the mean of all the 13 numbers of the group taken together is 17. What is the mean of the 8 largest numbers?

Solution

The sum of all numbers taken together = 13 x 17 = 221

The sum of 5 smallest numbers = 5 x 15 = 75

The sum of remaining 8 numbers = 221 - 75 = 146

Now, mean of remaining numbers = 146 / 8 = 18.25

Hence, option D is the correct answer.
