Two women A and B are shopping in a mall. They start from the same point. A walks 150 m West, then turns to her left and walks 160 m. B walks 140 m East, then turns South and walks 160 m, then turns to her left and walks 120 m. Where is B with respect to A now?

Solution

Let both A and B start from point S. The path of A is represented by black while blue represents B's path.

A walks 150 m west and reaches T, and finally stops at point U by walking 160 m south of T.

Similarly, B walks 140 m east and reaches R and finally stops at point P.

Thus, PU = 150 + 140 + 120 = 410 m

$$\therefore$$ B is 410 m to the east of A.
