Question 36

There are five friends, Ram, Shekhar, Sonu, Rinku and Monu, who are sitting at different positions in a row and facing north. Two friends sit between Shekhar and Rinku. Shekhar sits neither in the first position nor the last position of the row. Monu is not an immediate neighbour of Shekhar. Ram sits second to the left of Sonu. Sonu does not sit at the extreme ends of the row. Who is sitting at the middle of the row?

Solution

Two friends sit between Shekhar and Rinku. Shekhar sits neither in the first position nor the last position of the row.

There are two possible cases which are given below in Case(i) and Case(ii).

Case(i) _ Shekhar _ _ Rinku

Case(ii) Rinku _ _ Shekhar _

Monu is not an immediate neighbour of Shekhar. Ram sits second to the left of Sonu.

Case(i) Ram Shekhar Sonu Monu Rinku

Case(ii) Rinku Monu Ram Shekhar Sonu

Sonu does not sit at the extreme ends of the row.

The above given condition is not applicable in Case(ii). So this case is eliminated.

Ram Shekhar Sonu Monu Rinku

According to the above arrangement, Sonu is sitting at the middle of the row.
